support for TL-WR841N v10

Post by dj9ph » Sat Nov 07, 2015 9:54 pm

Hello,

I successfully updated firmware for WR841ND v10.
This is the version you get whenever you buy a router at Saturn in Braunschweig...
Here is the link with the to-Do's:
https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=292409

The link to the software (The link in the description is not working...):

There is still a bug in the software but it is a start...

So now next steps trying to reach somebody out there (QTH Lengede)

Salut Christian,

the next step is to get our amateur radio frequencies ready openwrt firmware for which we need a copy of your licence (https://www.arcman.de/pub/firmware/request.php) to record to whom binaries were given. The firmware might be branded with your call sign.

With this firmware the router has to be upgraded. There are several ways to do it: just to train our command line skills I suggest to do it there. Download the firmware from a local http/ftp Server (cd /tmp, wget). It's always clever to have an own local http/ftp server running. To start from the scratch you should delete all configuration with the upgrade (sysupgrade -n).

After the update you won't have any web interface further. This is by design and should be kept ... one reason: you will run out of memory with the 841.

Before we switch over to the configuration we have to make sure that we understood what we want to setup next:

a. ARCMAN is a switched (layer 2) network which means you musn't connect ARCMAN to your local network if you don't want to show your home to the public.
b. even if it's unconfortable respect the former line - and it will be unconfortable because we have to forget about what we know about infrastructure networks and start learning thinking the mesh network's way
c. Do you know how to bring your router to failsafe mode? Else check for it and try it. You will need it.
d. After the configuration is done we will have zeronconf/mDNS/DNS-SD on the copper side of the router. A client computer well prepared, Windows with Bonjour and Bonjour browser or Linux with Avahi, will help to connect.

Up to here: Everything's fine, up and running?

ciao

Jens

Please, always use http://downloads.openwrt.org/chaos_calmer/15.05/ as public source for openwrt firmware.

For the ARCMAN branch a server repo will be set up soon.

For now, we will patch our kernel sources to have v10 being supported.
